Harvest 2009
On Saturday morning November 14, 2009 the weather was beautiful: full sun, cool with no clouds or fog. At 7am our 70 friends started arriving at our Olive Ranch and enjoyed coffee and breakfast. At 7:30 our pastor Mike Griffin asked for God’s blessing for a safe and productive harvest. I then reviewed harvest instructions and made a plea for a safe harvest. We then led the teams into the field and everyone was picking olives by 8am. Also, our foreman, Javier, by this time had 20 paid workers picking olives in the East field. At 11am, our Daughter Jill, who is a caterer in Portland, OR, delivered a very welcome snack to all pickers. By 1:30pm many friends who had started in the West and North fields had moved to the South and finally to the East field where we declared the harvest over. We had picked 5000 pounds of olives. At 2pm friends were treated to a gourmet lunch with some excellent J. Keverson winery wines.
